Abstract

Collocations, as well as colligations and other co-occurrence patterns, play an important role in corpus linguistics, psycholinguistics and usage-based grammar and lexicology. To measure the degree of attraction between words and other units, one can use diverse association measures, such as collostructional strength, Pointwise Mutual Information or ΔP. From this chapter you will learn how to compute a variety of association measures using a small set of different co-occurrence frequencies. The case study is based on co-occurrence frequencies of different verbs in the Russian ditransitive construction.
