Reshaping the Border Zone. An Approach to Satirical Space
This chapter revisits the question of space in relation to the understandingof the power of satire; it focuses on so-called “mediascapes” containing theproduction and consumption of satirical representations. It is not so easy toidentify the public discursive position of these satirical media spaces. As amatter of course these stand somewhere in the margin, while interfering withthe mainstream. They seem to involve a certain ‘minority’ stand; they functionsomewhere in a ‘border zone’, not really inside, not really outside the dominantpolitical discourse. I will suggest the notion of zone as an alternative concept, soas to enable the understanding of the complex dynamics that play around theconstruction of public discourses in and through satirical “mediascapes”.
