Abstract

This discussion of technology in education considers three aspects of dialogue.The first is a subtle dialogue where students and teachers negotiate the impactof the tacit knowledge inherent in the technology. Any technology carries abias and has metaphors embedded in both the design and practical use. Thesecond is the conversation we engage in as we try to shape the technology to doour bidding, and as we adapt to what the technology wants us to do. The thirdidea focuses on how we carry on our conversations with others through thetechnology and how the medium influences the message. The underlying questionis how do we use the technology to move beyond fact gathering to deeperthinking?
