The paper focuses on the ways and means of realisation of conference discussion sessions interaction in terms of argumentation strategies used by discussants, and their communicative effects. It is based on typescripts of recorded discussion sessions. Each of these groups consists of sub-classes that will be discussed, accompanied by examples. The analysis is based on the classical Aristotelian theory of argumentation. The results point to both cross-cultural and interpersonal differences in the employment of various argumentation strategies.
