SUMMARYA comparison of two major German-language monographs on interlinguistics sheds light on the common basis of the discipline and on its two major theoretical orientations, the sociological and the linguistic. Although interlinguistics properly includes the scientific study and systematic improvement of international linguistic communication in general, the creation and use of planned languages (international auxiliary languages) remains its chief object of research.ZUSAMMENFASSUNGEin Vergleich von zwei großen deutschsprachigen Monographien über Interlinguistik beleuchtet die gemeinsamen Grundlagen der Disziplin und ihre zwei wichtigsten theoretischen Richtungen, die soziologische und die linguistische. Obgleich die Interlinguistik eigentlich die wissenschaftliche Untersuchung und systematische Verbesserung der internationalen sprachlichen Kommunikation im allgemeinen einschlieBt, bleibt die Schaffung und Verwendung von Plansprachen (internationale Hilfssprachen) ihr wichtigster Forschungsgegenstand.
