Accessibility statement
JB e-Platform aims to comply with international accessibility standards, including level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1). Our commitment to making our platform accessible is an ongoing process and we continually strive to improve its accessibility.
Ingenta have created a basic VPAT for their Edify product, upon which this John Benjamins e-Platform is built. We will be adding specific information for the properties of our platform, where they are not covered by this basic VPAT.
Accessibility of our electronic content:
E-books: most of the ebooks published before 2000 have been digitized later into scanned PDF with an uncorrected text layer for searching; after 2000, the ebooks are mostly web-ready PDF, and books published since the end of 2016 have an ePub3 edition in addition to the PDF.
For individual book titles published in 2025, we offer a VPAT for the epub edition, which is generally considered to be the format that offers the best accessibility options. These can be found on the benjamins.com website, at the bottom of a book's webpage, under "Subjects and metadata". In general, the relevant URL linking to the book's VPAT will look like this https://benjamins.com/catalog/{book id}/vpat , where the book id matches the last part of the book DOI (following our publisher prefix 10.1075/). For example https://benjamins.com/catalog/pbns.355/vpat.
Journals: journal content published before 2000 is mostly only available as a scanned PDF with an uncorrected text layer for searching; after 2000, all journal articles are web-ready PDF, since 2017 we have added full-text HTML (using the JATS standard). In the course of 2022, we have started adding ePuB3 versions to newly published journal articles.
If you encounter any difficulty with using JB e-Platform or if you have any comments or questions, please contact [email protected].
