Abstract

SUMMARYIn the evolution of Indo-European, three main periods of development are to be distinguished. Old IE or PIE I lasted several millennia at the end of the palaeolithic. It was univocalic and monosyllabic; it had no morphology. Middle IE or PIE II lasted several millennia during the mesolithic. During this period of development, the phonemic system was enriched, the word structure evolved, and the morphology began to be formed. At the end of PIE II, Anatolian separated from the main speech body. Late IE began with the first phase of the Neolithic. Around the 6th-5th millennia, other IE branches began to develop.RÉSUMÉOn doit distinguer trois périodes principales dans l'évolution de l'indo-européen.
