Abstract

This paper illustrates why the study of the history of translation is essential in a translation program. Many historical functions of translation are presented as well as several sub-fields of research. The main objectives of a course on history of translation are listed. Finally, an innovative multimedia and multilingual cd-rom on the history of translation is presented.
