A Propos Des 'Circunloquios' Du Verbe Castillan Chez Nebrija: Le 'Nombre Participial Infinito'

SUMMARYThe purpose of this contribution is to study the 'Nombre Participial Infi-nito' (NPI), one of the elements of speech taken into account for the Castilian language in Nebrija's Gramdtica Castellana. In order to facilitate — later on and to others — the approach of what originality this discrimination may have, we have first studied the suggested definition which is supposed to establish its existence, next to the participle, the substantive noun and the infinitive. Then we have closely examined the position it is given in the 'circunlo-quios' of the verb, and particularly in the periphrasis containing 'aver' in ante-position, compared, for the sake of the demonstration, with periphrases with 'aver' in postposition (future and conditional). We have come to some conclusions on the opinion Nebrija seems to have formed on the part played in it by the NPI placed after, at a time when its invariability can already be considered as permanent and the disappearance, to the benefit of 'aver' only, of the 'aver/ser' rivalry in the making of the compound forms of the active voice, as definitely established.RÉSUMÉL'objectif de cette contribution est l'examen du 'nombre participial infi-nito (NPI), Tune des parties de discours retenues pour le castillan dans la Gra-mdtica castellana de Nebrija. En vue de faciliter — ulterieurement et a d'autres — l'appreciation de ce que peut avoir d'original cette discrimination, on s'est arrete d'abord sur la definition qui en est proposee et qui est censee en asseoir l'existence a cote du participe, du nom substantif et de l'infinitif. Ensuite on s'est penche de pres sur la place qui lui est accordee dans les 'cir-cunloquios' du verbe, et, tout particulierement, dans la periphrase avec 'aver' antepose, rapprochee, pour les besoins de la cause, des periphrases en 'aver' postpose (futur et conditionnel). On en a tire quelques lumieres sur l'idee que Nebrija parait s'etre fait du role, en son sein, du NPI postpose, a une epoque ou son invariabilite peut deja etre tenue pour quasiment etablie, et pour prati-quement acquise la disparition, au benefice du seul 'aver', de la concurrence 'aver/ser' dans la formation des formes composees de la voix active.
