A small part of Salvá's corpus does come from medieval and renaissance authors, but these are used only to illustrate diachronic change in Spanish. Salvâ's empirical and descriptive approach, and that of other 19th-century Spanish and Spanish American grammarians that follow him, leads to specialization within the wider field of grammar and, as is shown here, syntax is the area that profits the most, both in depth and in size or extension. There is no precedent for this grammaticographical tradition in the Renaissance, when a literary corpus is used only for those parts of the texts that traditionally dealt with metrics and versification. Renaissance grammarians derived the authority of their texts from the transfer of the rules of Latin grammar into Spanish, not from the language of the literary canon. During the 18th-century Enlightenment grammars based on a literary corpus begin to appear, but the authors from whose works the corpus is taken are those of a previous (non-contemporary) period. As shown in this article, it is in the 18th century that descriptivism results in an increase in the importance of syntax, although that increment in size is minor by comparison with that which takes place during the 19th century beginning with the works of Salvá.RÉSUMÉLe modèle hispanique des grammaires descriptives fondées, du point de vue méthodologique, sur un corpus ou répertoire de textes vérifiables, surtout littéraires, remonte aux différentes versions de la Gramâtica de Vicente Salvá (11831-81847) et ultérieurement de Andrés Bello (l 1847-1860). Contrairement à la tradition qui les précède, ces Grammaires du XIXe siècle commencent à se spécialiser dans l'étude synchronique et descriptive des phénomènes linguistiques observés dans le corpus d'auteurs contemporains. Grâce à ce procédé empirique, la syntaxe est la partie de la grammaire qui expérimente un plus grand développement. Cette tradition grammaticographique ne trouve pas de précurseurs sous la Renaissance, lorsqu'il existe un grand intérêt pour tranférer à la langue espagnole les préceptes et les régies du latin, plutôt que de céder à la langue littéraire l'autorité en matière grammaticale. En revanche, les différentes réformes entreprises pendant le Siècle des Lumières constituent le premier pas vers une grammaire élaborée à partir de témoignages littéraires, même si la langue prise comme exemple appartient (conformément au caractère de l'époque) à celle des écrivains classiques espagnoles.ZUSAMMENFASSUNGDas spanische Modell deskriptiver Grammatiken, welche sich metho-dologisch auf ein überpriifbares, vornehmlich literarisch geprägtes Korpus gründen, geht auf verschiedene Versionen der Gramâtica von Vicente Salvá (11831-81847) und später auf die von Andrés Bello (1847) zuriick. Gegenüber der ihnen vorausgehenden Tradition beginnen die Grammatiken des 19. Jahr-hunderts, sich auf das synchronische und deskriptive Studium sprachlicher Phänomene auf der Grundlage eines Korpus zeitgenössischer Autoren zu spe-zialisieren. Durch diese empirische Herangehensweise erfâhrt insbesondere das grammatische Teilgebiet der Syntax sowohl in Umfang als auch in Tiefe we-sentliche Entwicklungsimpulse. In der Renaissance, in der ein starkes Interesse an der Ubernahme von Regeln und Vorschriften der lateinischen Grammatik festzusellen ist, zu Lasten einer an der Literatursprache orientierten Grammatikographie, lassen sich kaum Vorläufer dieser Tradition nachweisen. Im Ge-gensatz dazu bilden die verschiedenen, während der Aufklärung zu Ende geführten Reformen den Auftakt für eine auf literarische Zeugnisse begrunde-ten Grammatik, wobei allerdings die sprachlichen Beispiel — dem Zeitgeist entsprechend — der spanischen Klassik entstammen.", }
