Abstract

Some possibilities of interpretative application of a computer-made concordance, reverse dictionary, and frequency-list of Joyce's Dubliners are demonstrated by the example of the suffix -less and the substantives voice and life. General reflections as to how mere quantitative content analysis can be developed into a more exacting qualitative one via the stages of frequency-, valence-, intensity-, and contingency-analysis are currently embarked upon, the inherent limitations of these methods being laid open.
