Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine mainly the syntactic, but also some semantic, properties of kes kathta construction in Korean and other similar constructions such as moyang-ita, kes-ita, and pa-ita. I will argue that sentences containing such constructions are to be analyzed as being 'subjectless' and at the same time that subjectlessness in these sentences constitutes one of the features of the Korean language that distinguishes it from such Indo-European languages as English, French and German.
